What are dental crowns?
If you are experiencing moderate to severe decay or damage, Dr. Obiora E. Nkwonta, our skilled dentist, may utilize a dental crown to ensure your smile stays healthy and strong. Dental crowns are custom-made caps that encase a tooth up to the gumline. We may use a dental crown in Seattle, Washington to:
- Hold a cracked or breaking tooth together
- Prevent a weak tooth from breaking
- Support a large filling or root canal treatment
- Anchor a dental bridge
- Complete a dental implant
Dental crowns are used at Rainier Dental Center to restore the shape, size, and health of a decayed tooth.
How are dental crowns made?
Two visits to our dental office are all you need to receive your natural-looking dental crown. Most often made from porcelain and ceramic that can be matched to your exact tooth color, dental crowns are a beautiful way to restore your smile. When you first visit our office, we will prepare your tooth by gently reshaping your tooth enamel. This ensures the dental crown does not look too bulky or thick. Molds are taken and sent to a laboratory that can usually make your crown in two weeks. In the interim, we can fit your smile with a temporary crown. Dr. Obiora E. Nkwonta will examine your permanent dental crown when it is back at our office to make sure it fits before cementing it in place. To learn more about this process, we invite you to call and schedule your appointment today. We are eager to take care of your smile!
